Run a family-friendly event? Sign up to the Family Arts Standards

The Family Arts Campaign and the Family & Childcare Trust have developed a set of Family Arts Standards, addressing a need for clear guidance on how best to welcome families to arts organisations.

‘The Family Arts Standards are a fantastic guide to help make sure arts and culture organisations are reaching their potential when it comes to what they offer for family members. The advantage of signing up can be felt by both organisations and families, allowing the venue or company the chance to communicate information on what they offer, and giving families the opportunity to plan their visit in advance. The comprehensive list of organisations that have already signed up is a clear indicator of how well the Family Arts Standards are considered within the sector.’  Laura Dyer, Executive Director, Arts Council England

The Family Arts Standards provide guidance and accreditation for organisers of cultural events, arts organisations, practitioners and groups or associations to better welcome families. As well as providing a useful set of guidelines for event organisers, the Standards are a mark of quality for families looking for cultural activities to enjoy together.

Our research shows that there is a strong correlation between Standard- holders and increased family engagement, with those promoting the standards twice as likely to see an increase in family involvement.

It is entirely free and very easy to sign-up- almost 500 groups or arts organisations  are already Standard-holders. By doing so, the Family Arts Campaign can help you promote your events and activities through their national communications.

To sign-up, just email Family Arts Campaign Manager Jenny Daly

Come Join The Chorus

It is with great sadness that I have to say, having heard from our friends at Chippenham Festival, that Ted Poole, organiser, folk enthusiast, MC, great chorus singer, trade unionist and all round good and kind man has passed away. Ted, with his wife Ivy, had been running folk clubs and music events in and around Swindon for about fifty years. A great supporter of local musicians, singer/songwriters and always gave great encouragement to young, up and coming artists. He will be sorely missed in the music business and particularly in the Wiltshire music scene. As Bob Berry of Chippenham Festival said, 'One In A Million'.
