From a background in building services engineering, and making music as a hobby, I then found myself running off to join The Newcranes as a full time musician. After a stint in self-employment as Making Notes in the 1990s, working in music, merchandising and more, I took a job in Derby’s Assembly Rooms. That developed into a number of roles, spanning more than 24 years – front door staff, stage door, porterage, duty management, casual stage technician, assistant technical manager, programme manager and venue manager…
As part of that, Derby Folk Festival was set up in 2007 and I have been co-director, with Mick Peat, since the first inkling of the idea!
Always willing to take on a challenge (and nothing to do with a mid-life crisis!), I’m back playing in The Newcranes again, and now embarking on a new chapter of self employment… I’d love to see how my knowledge, skills, and practical pragmatic approach to events could be of assistance to your project.
