Interested in using 8th Plate for your event this year?

Updates from NCASS

Welcome to the latest NCASS newsletter.

Interested in using 8th Plate for your event this year?

If you're looking to improve the sustainable credentials of your event, a great place to start is by salvaging surplus food from catering units. The Eighth Plate project redirects this food to charities and food banks, where it feeds those in need.

Last year, Eighth Plate prevented over ten tonnes of surplus food from going to waste and aims to salvage even more this year.

"Having Eighth Plate involved in the Arcadia event was really great - the operation ran smoothly and successfully, plus we were able to reduce our waste and support a wonderful organisation doing good works right here in London." Michelle Tilley, Events Manager at Slammin Events

"I would encourage all event organisers to try introducing Eighth Plate at their festivals as an easy way of reducing waste and supporting local people who need it most.” Zofia Plonczak, Operations Manager at LWE

Get involved this year
If you'd like to use Eighth Plate at your next event, send an email to [email protected] by 1st May 2019 with the subject line: 'Eighth Plate 2019'.

Are you using Work Opps?

Our Work Opps service makes finding caterers for your events simple.

To place a Work Opp, visit our Find a Caterer page, where you can specify location and food/drink types required. This will be sent out to all eligible NCASS members (those who meet the criteria) via text message. Then, all interested caterers will get in touch with you using your preferred contact details.

Save yourself the time you'd otherwise spend trawling through websites to find the caterer you need. Place a Work Opp and they will come to you.

Find caterers for your country shows on Connect

Do you organise your local fete or country show? Are you looking for caterers who have top hygiene scores and excellent legal compliancy?

Connect isn't isn't just for big festivals! We've recently had the likes of the North Somerset Country Show and the Royal Lancashire Show sign up to source traders exclusively through Connect and we're looking for more small events to get on board with us.

Connect makes finding and managing traders and their documentation quicker and easier, and best of all, it's completely free.

Green Events & Innovations Conference 2019 (GEI11)

The Green Events & Innovations Conference took place on Tuesday 5th March at the Royal Garden Hotel, in Kensington, London.

Mark Laurie spoke to event organisers about the Eighth Plate project as part of a panel on The Essentials: Food …and Merch?! alongside Nika Brunet (MetalDays, SI), Xander Kotvis (DGTL, NL), Maeve O’Brian (Giant Triplets, UK), Richard Cassar (Ethical Tee Company, UK).

The aim of the talk was to encourage more people across the events industry to understand the impact of what we consume, and better clarify how our eating habits effect our environment. Read a summary of the day here.
