Did I Tell You the One About the Green Parent?

Did I Tell You the One About the Green Parent?

No?  It is not a parent that is green, it is actually the name of a magazine, and if you get your chance as a festival organiser to grab a copy and have a read of the June/July 2019 edition, you will find a Festival Guide.  A great deal of information about all kinds of festivals and events.  Maybe you could be in there next year?

It is one of many guides that you need to answer the age-old question, ‘How many festivals are there?’

Well, the answer is nobody really knows.  But if you look at e-Festivals Online, fROOTS, RocknReel, Spiral Earth, Live UK magazine, many others and of course The Green Parent once a year, you will start to put together a pretty good idea of how many are out there, how diverse the festival scene really is and how some people come to the conclusion that there are too many festivals.

Personally, I would say that it is a bit like saying there are too many supermarkets or there are too many cinemas or too many music clubs.  In fact, there are over 60 million people living in the United Kingdom, how many people do you want to come to your festival?  Perhaps what we should think about is not ‘there are too many festivals’ but ‘there is not enough diversification in the way that they are set up and programmed’. They are all copying each other, one way or another.  Maybe somebody should come up with a brand-new idea for a festival of a completely different style.  That would shake us all up!
