AFO News Update
Tuesday 18 June - General Secretary, Steve Heap went to several meetings in London on behalf of the Association.
First to meet Kevin Brennan, MP Shadow Culture Minister to discuss business rates on greenfield sites along with PRS and PPL infringements onto our budgets. I will keep in touch with Kevin as he investigates the business rates issue a little further, and report back.
Second meeting was with Nick Dodds from FEIUK to look at the links between his association and ours. Nick used to be the organiser of BAFA and has many years of experience in the arts world, especially in the southeast. It is likely we will forge more links in the future.
From there I went to the Southbank Centre to meet with Richard Morris from Foremarke Events. This is a company that looks at how associations operate and offers advice on further developments and changes to the way conferences and training work. I think he will be some help to AFO in the future.
Next I went to the Goethe Institute in Exhibition Road, London for a BAFA presentation about international links. Speakers included festival and arts organisers and promoters from a variety of European countries. Several new contacts were made, if any AFO members need European contacts in the arts, then we have good links with BAFA and could help connect.
Finally I met with Paul Reed from AIF to catch up and exchange notes on the work of AIF and AFO. We connect on several issues and swap notes and information on a regular basis.
A long day but very successful.Previous Story: A quick catch upNext Story: AFO Conference February 2021 - An amazing platform for an amazing day.
