APPG for Events holds first meeting after re-establishment
On 8 December 2020, the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Events (APPG) held its first meeting following its re-establishment as an official APPG in parliament.
Members of parliament from all the major political parties attended the online meeting chaired by the Rt Hon Theresa Villiers MP. A number of supporting officers were also elected including Mark Menzies MP, Robert Seely MP, Owen Thompson MP, Robert Largan MP, and many others. Theresa Villiers said, “This was a very successful first meeting with lots of enthusiasm from MPs about backing events, conferences and exhibitions. We all agreed how crucial it is to get the industry open again so we will be looking at how the government can help provide certainty by supporting a number of issues, including pandemic insurance”.
The group also agreed to meet again early in the New Year when it would be inviting representatives from various stakeholder groups to discuss how the APPG could provide support, both short term and long term given the particular challenges that the industry continues to face.

The APPG was formed by the Events Industry Forum in 2011 as a cross-party group of members of both Houses of Parliament to act as an industry voice in Westminster. Since then the Group has been very successful in raising the profile of festivals and events in parliamentary circles.Previous Story: MP’s Question Ministers in the House.
